The Quiet Cup: Remembering God’s Faithfulness as We Enter Advent

Welcome back, friends. November is nearly over and we’ve now arrived at the final cup in this month-long quiet practice of thankful reflection. I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving Day!

Through this series, we’ve looked at God’s kindness in our homes, our relationships, and our communities. Now, as we close November and turn our faces toward Advent, we pause to remember the unshakeable anchor beneath them all: God’s faithfulness.

This year has held both beauty and ache, clarity and questions, full days and unseen prayers for our family. When I look back, I can trace moments where I felt confident and moments where I whispered, Lord, I don’t know what You’re doing, but I trust You. And yet, through it all, there has been one unchanging truth: the Lord has been faithful.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)

So much comfort in those words; not occasionally present mercies, not conditional mercies, not if-I-perform-well mercies, but daily, abundant, fresh mercies, extended and kept from a covenant-keeping God.

When I name His mercies, I find they multiply:

  • provisions I didn’t expect

  • prayers answered quietly

  • protection I didn’t know I needed

  • gentle corrections

  • sustaining grace in everyday tasks

  • promises that outlast my emotions and circumstances

  • and assurance that His plans are always greater than my own.

Through this practice, even my prayers that seem unanswered are easier to lift to Him again and again. I may not know how He will answer, but I know He will, because He always does.

As Advent approaches, I don’t want to rush past this still moment of remembrance. Advent is not merely preparation for celebration, it is preparation for wonder. We remember that the same faithful God of Lamentations is the God who came near, took on flesh, and entered our weary world with redeeming love.

You may already be in the thick of Advent preparations and Christmas celebrations. But before November ends, I encourage you to take a long moment and remember the Lord’s faithfulness in your life. Hold this final November quiet cup with a grateful, steadied heart and pray with me, Great is Your Faithfulness, O God My Father

Happy stewarding, friends.
