The Quiet Cup: My Home is a Haven
Welcome back to this month’s The Quiet Cup thankfulness series! Today, I’m thankful for my home.
“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” - Proverbs 24:3-4
My Home is a Haven
We moved into our home a little over a year ago, and I still feel a wave of gratitude every time I turn into our long driveway. I love that nearly every time I leave the house, I see someone I know; a neighbor walking their dog, a friend pushing her stroller, a family heading to the park down the street. It’s the kind of place that reminds me community isn’t always something you have to chase and strive for; sometimes, it’s right outside your front door.
And inside, our home holds proof of so many answered prayers. The playroom, flooded with light, is where my toddler knocks down block towers and laughs, “Mama, build it again!” until naptime. The living room offers space enough for game nights and small group meetings and craft parties. The dining room, with its homey bay window, has become my favorite spot for slow breakfasts and cozy dinners.
I’m beyond thankful for the kitchen, too. Its long countertops, tall cabinets, and triple the storage we had in our old apartment have all become the backdrop for so many simple meals, parties, and get-togethers. Down the hallway (which has already seen countless toddler races) is our bedroom, overlooking a front yard that first made me fall in love with this place. Right next door is our toddler’s bedroom, complete with pink walls, framed flowers, and an overflowing bookshelf, a small haven of her own. Our backyard is bigger than I could have hoped for, currently covered in the crunchiest leaves around. I’m especially thankful for our large basement, which isn’t the prettiest you’ve ever seen, but is a particularly practical place to store extra food, prepare for the seasons ahead, and dream about what it could be when more children someday join our family.
Every room is an answer to prayer, a reminder of grace and provision. Even the messes and half-finished projects, the scuffed up floors and the creaking windows, the discarded shoes and leftover cheerios are all evidence of a life sustained by grace. In this month of thankfulness, I wanted to reflect on my home. On the fact that I’m living in an answered prayer. What a gift!
If you’re reading this and your home feels too small, too cluttered, or too loud, I hope you can take a quiet moment to notice the goodness tucked inside its walls. The laughter, the meals shared, the warmth that lingers after everyone’s asleep. These are the “precious and pleasant riches” Proverbs speaks of; not things we buy, but things we receive and steward with a thankful heart.
Here’s to giving thanks for the walls that hold our families, and to finding peace in the work of making them homes. Happy stewarding!
What Is The Quiet Cup?
The Quiet Cup is a gentle weekend reflection series from yours truly at The Faithful Little Pantry, offering encouragement for mothers, wives, and homemakers as they head into the busy days ahead.
As a wife and mother myself, weekends often seem busier than the weekdays in our home and it’s easy to get lost in the chaos. I want to end my week with an intentional pause, with a quiet cup if you will, before I head into the craziness. Rooted in themes of stewardship, faithfulness, and intentional living, each post is meant to serve as a small but meaningful pause. A quiet moment to refocus the heart, remember your calling, and rest in God’s grace.
So grab a cup of something comforting, find a brief, quiet moment, and be encouraged by The Quiet Cup.
